Stardate 55177.9
Thanks to the new home of The Captain's Gig, I have been able to create a simple, web enabled way of sending the latest Captain's Log entry to the crew so that they may read it in their inbox instead of having to come to the site to see it. I want to encourage those receiving that newsletter to stop in to the Captain's Gig at http://www.ussorion.com from time to time and see how things are doing. I am frequently available to chat about all things Star Trek in the COMM section of the website and there are various "cool" things relating to Star Trek that can be accessed from the site. I strive to make the USS Orion LCARS as real looking as possible. If you have any questions or comments on how I can improve, your email is always welcome at captain@ussorion.com. If you want to join the crew, email me at the previous address and ask to join the crew. I will add you to the list and you will be sent all log entrys. Likewise, if you are receiving the newsletter and wish to discontinue, email me and ask to be removed. I have always believed (as does my new web host) that SPAM and Ads only turn people off to the internet and that's why we are committed to bringing you what you want, no ads on the site and we won't send you unwanted email.

I have just transferred the gig to a new home thanks to our gracious friends at wiredbanana.com they have given us the capability to continue to have this site open and running and even to extend the capabilities of it. Thanks again to wiredbanana.com! The reason for this move is because for some time now, the gig has been hosted on my ISP's servers. I am switching ISPs and the new one doesn't offer web space. My friends at wiredbanana.com will be hosting this site until further notice. They will be offering hosting services in the near future to the public so keep an eye out for them.

I just had to post this. The new text chat is up and running and it's very IRC. In fact it's possible to connect with IRC software, but to get started, just click the COMM section and click Text Chat to get into the USS Orion Mess Hall... Soups on!

Remember when I mentioned a historical archive was being rediscovered? One covering the early days of Starfleet? Well, here's a link to that archive. Begin the journey... Let's go! Historical Archive

There are incresing reports from Starfleet and the Federation of a serious bacterial problem. It is my hope and those of the Orion's crew that these problems be resolved quickly. Meanwhile Starfleet continues to attack the terrorist network. Godspeed to those of our comrades in the battle.

The Orion has been exploring the outer reaches of the galaxy and we have found a few anomalies. We will showcase our discoveries on here in the near future. Keep an eye on the upper right mode select buttons for more info.

Much good news! I have switched the server over to my ISP's server because the popup ads were very obtrusive at freewebsites. Sorry about that. I have said before that the new version of the Cronometer... CronoXP would be released coniciding with the release of Microsoft Windows XP. That will release at the end of October. I have instead decided that since XP is now available on new computers and being that I have CronoXP done, I will be posting very soon the new CronoXP on the captain's gig website at http://www.ussorion.com If you have used my program in the past, I apologize. All kidding aside, this looks to be the best yet. It will work on almost all versions of windows. I have tested it with WindowsXP and Millennium and it works on both. If you are unable to use it on any other versions made after and including Win95, please let me know.

I've been putting finishing touches on the CronoXP installer. It will have a full uninstall feature so that if you decide you don't want it installed on your system, it's only a couple clicks away from being uninstalled. I next plan to make a star trek themed internet application. Not sure what all will be in it or what exactly it will be yet. I'm taking suggestions so if you have any ideas, send them to captain@ussorion.com.

First I want to express my deepest sympathies to those affected by the terrorist attacks in NYC and Washigton on September 11, 2001. I want to believe that such events only inspire us as a nation and a world to strive for what Gene Roddenberry has given us in Star Trek. Now, for the exciting news, Enterprise has launched, The Captain's Gig will soon be updated to reflect the new info on that series. The forthcoming CronoXP will be available by the time WindowsXP ships in stores. We will be using a new installer to go with the new design. Those of you familiar with Nullsoft Winamp will recognize the new installer because it's from the same people. The new version features an improved PADD, and autorun on startup capabilities. CronoXP will work on Win9x, Win2k and WinXP. Stay tuned....

I don't know about you, but I think that Enterprise is looking to be a great addition to the Star Trek universe. StarTrek.com has an interview with Scott Bakula (Captain Johnathan Archer) which gives us some insight into how he feels about the role and the series. Good reading. To check it out, goto the Links>Transwarp area and click "Star Trek Official Site"

Exciting News! The Stardate Cronometer is back on the drawing board. Thanks to Borland Delphi 6 personal it's getting a facelift. New functionality and I'm improving the old code. This is a rewrite so it won't work 100% as previous versions but many things are the same. It will be known as Stardate Cronometer XP (No, you don't have to have XP in order to use it) or CronoXP for short. Stay tuned for more info.

Well, The Captain and wife are on the lookout for a great job. Why? because our employer had to reduce workforce. We have been using Monster.com and are very happy with it. Anyone need a web designer or an administrative assistant?

This constant connection to the starfleet subspace net is very nice. If you get the chance to get one do it. Wireless or wired it's much nicer than the interruptable style we used to have (56k). Unless you've been in another quadrant, you probably have heard that Starfleet R&D is looking back through the old logs of the original Starfleet Starship... Enterprise to rediscover how important that part of history was. I encourage all to log on to the video archives and study them thoroughly once they are made publicly available in October on UPN. I am making it required study for my crew.

Good news! The USS Orion has been upgraded to use a wireless connection to the subspace network. In 20th century terms it is a 256k wireless always on connection using Lucent Orinoco wireless LAN cards. Much better that the previous dial up. Expect the Captain to be in more often now.

Well, here we are in a new Staryear. The USS Orion is in a new home on Freewebsites because of the problems with Crosswinds. Anyway enough with that. As you can see we have a new Log system in place thanks to our good friends at Blogger. I will be able to keep more accurate logs this way. I encourage you to beam up often and see how things are going here on the USS Orion. Also the change for our free email service is in effect. Users who sign up now can get an @ussorion.com email address! to get one yourself goto freemail.ussorion.com or click "Email" above. If you had been using our free email service, your address has changed from USERNAME@ussorion.everyone.net to USERNAME@ussorion.com. That's all for now. Live Long and Prosper.

Lot's of news to report. First of all, My wife and I had a baby girl on April 28th. Second, I'm continuing improvements to the gig. I have added Master Situation Monitor and Navigation/engineering displays and the KIA-MIA listing. Headline news has changed and USSORION mail will soon be @ussorion.com instead of @ussorion.everyone.net. Stay tuned for further updates.

Welcome to the long awaited Flash enhanced Captain's Gig. I am very excited to announce this. The flash enhancements allow you to do more without taking up too much desktop real estate. The personnel section is updated and expanded, organized by first letter of the last n ame. Content provided by StarTrek.com . The search section has been streamlined to use The Captain's Gig search engine and UPS package tracking only. You'll notice there are fewer annoyances as well. I've removed the CometCursor popups and the user login prompts which were certainly annoying me. Stay tuned for further updates.
